Personal music playlists may reduce medication use with dementia

According to a recent study on caregiving for those with Alzheimer’s, the creation of individualized music playlists and general increased interaction with music significantly reduced patients’ need for anxiety medication, among other mental health treatments. Thus while it did not impact the course of the disease, this kind of music program appears to alleviate some of its most serious symptoms, improving quality of life for patients and their caregivers. Music has, too, additional benefits for dementia patients– it increases social interaction and adds meaning to their everyday life.
