G20 health ministers have a growing concern that antibiotic resistant bacteria strains are becoming more prevalent. One of the reasons for this increase in antibiotic resistant bacteria is the over-prescription of antibiotics in the fields of human illness and animal husbandry. One particular G20 minister suggests the need for more funding for research and educating both doctors and patients of the dangers of over-prescription of antibiotics and also suggest that if this issue is not addressed, the world could revert to a “pre-penicillin era”.
